What does it mean to despise the day of small things?

Question:
What does it mean to despise the day of small things?

Answer:
The prophet Zechariah asked the question: “Who hath despised the day of small things?” (Zechariah 4:10). The verse before he said: “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you.”

Another prophet Haggai lived at the same time as Zechariah when the temple was rebuilt in Jerusalem, and he asked: “Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? And how do ye see it now? Is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?”

(Haggai 2:3).

We are not to despise things just because they aren’t as “good” as they used to be; also, we shouldn’t desire “things” when we come together to worship, etc., because the LORD is there and He is all we need! For where two or three are gathered together unto My name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20).
Notice the whole message Zechariah gave: “For who hath despised the day of small things? For they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth” (Zechariah 4:10).

What are the benefits of living a Godly Christian life both here and forever?

Question:
What are the benefits of living a Godly Christian life both here and forever?

Answer:
(1) We will show the fruit of the Spirit, (Galatians 5:22, 23); (2) We will have persecution, for: “All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12), “Rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name” (Acts 5:41). Persecution can only drive us closer to the Lord, and He will only allow what is for His honor and glory, the blessing of precious souls, and our blessing. We might not have much time left to tell others—so don’t worry about persecution.

A Christian may be the only Bible an unsaved person reads—let’s give them a good translation.
The only failed witness is failing to witness.
If we feel that our witness isn’t accepted, don’t be discouraged. If Satan sees that we’re making inroads, he’ll throw lots of curves our way (1 Corinthians 16:9).
Two reasons we may suffer as a Christian:

1. We’re being a good Christian—(1 Peter 2:19,20).

2. We’re being a bad Christian—(1 Peter 2:20).
Telling the gospel is not the only thing—we need to disciple the Christians—help each other to grow. As the Lord said to His followers after His resurrection: “Go [therefore] and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them to the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have enjoined you” (Matthew 28:19,20, J. N. Darby translation). We are not all evangelists. Some may be pastors, as Timothy was, who cared for the Lord’s people largely privately, but Timothy and all Christians are told to do the work of the evangelist (2 Timothy 4:5).

What does Zechariah 14:21 mean when it says, “All they that sacrifice…”?

Question:
What does Zechariah 14:21 mean when it says, “All they that sacrifice…”?

Answer:
This verse is speaking of the millennial reign of Christ. Ezekiel chapters 40-48 tell us that God’s people on this earth at that time will make animal sacrifices, as they did in the Old Testament, as a way of worshipping God and giving thanks to Him.

However, we are not to offer animal sacrifices in the church age we live in. The Spirit of God urges His people today, “By Him [Christ] therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name” (Hebrews 13:15).

To Whom is it most important that we be seen as a good Christian?

Question:
To Whom is it most important that we be seen as a good Christian?

Answer:
God – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

We are to “please Him” (2 Timothy 2:4), and He will direct us to be a witness to others. Jesus tells us to “let [our] light so shine before men that they may see [our] good works and glorify [our] Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:15,16). Good Christians are so occupied with Christ that they don’t consider themselves great Christians. This was true of John the Baptist (John 3:30). We are to “press toward the mark for the prize of the calling on high” (Philippians 3:13, 14, J. N. Darby translation). A good Christian has a real desire for the Word of God and he searches the Scriptures (Acts 17:11).
