Why did the three Hebrew boys have girls’ names?

Question:

Why did the three Hebrew boys have girls’ names?

Answer:

Although the Hebrew names of the young men in the book of Daniel may sound feminine to us (Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah), they are men’s names.  We realize that Nebuchadnezzar changed their names to the Babylonian names of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
