“In lowliness of mind, let each esteem other better than themselves” (Phil. 2:3).
“Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith you are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love” (Eph. 4:1,2).
“Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart” (Matt. 11:29).
Thou meek and lowly Shepherd how much we need to learn,
To follow in Thy footsteps, Thy pathway to discern!
O fathomless example in every step Thou art,
In love and grace abounding, in meek and lowly heart.
Thou highest One in heaven for us did’st leave Thy throne,
So humbly died on Calvary for our sins to atone:
Returning good for evil, reviling not again,
Enduring wrath and hatred from wicked, cruel men.
And if we seek to follow the path that Thou did’st tread,
With shame we must acknowledge our wretchedness instead:
But bowing in Thy presence, naught in ourselves we see,
Thou meek and lowly Jesus, all, all is found in Thee.
And O what joy beholding in every step we trace,
Thy wondrous love and mercy, thy goodness and Thy grace;
And in Thy matchless beauty, in Thee alone we find
The one supreme example of lowliness of mind.
