“He. That Believeth

Is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already."

Most awful sight!-on Calvary's mount
Three crosses stand in bold relief;
There in the midst the Saviour dies,
On either side a thief.
Oh! blessed Saviour, by
Thy pain Thy loved ones reap eternal gain.

What led Thee to that awful cross?
What brought the Sinless One so low ?
'Twas not for aught that He had done,-
No sin of His. Ah ! no.
God's spotless Lamb,-the Victim slain,
For us He died, and lives again.

'Twas sin that nailed His blessed hands
And feet to that accursed cross;
Your sins and mine, O fellow-man,
He bore, to suffer thus.
But we, like that poor thief, believed ;
Like him, eternal life received.

In these three crosses we behold
The saved, the Saviour, and the lost.
The story of our ruined world,
The Saviour's death the cost.
Heaven's door is closed against our sin,
But faith in Jesus let us in.
