Question:
Why do people accept false Christs?
Answer:
This is a very important question to know the answer to for two reasons. First: so you as a young person will know what to be aware of. Secondly: so you as a believer will know how to help those who are following a man or woman, who profess to be Christ, or those who may be thinking of getting involved with such.
The use of the word “false” Christs, instead of antichrist, is important. When we think of antichrist we think of someone who is outwardly against Christ. Those who are false Christs are mainly driven by deception. They are out to deceive people into thinking they are looking out for the welfare of their followers, when they are actually seeking to gratify their own desires. In 1 John 2:18 we are told that in “the last time,” which is the time we are living in, there will be many antichrists (plural). But to get to your question of why people accept false Christs, many who accept these people are looking for stability, security, and they have an overwhelming need to be accepted. We need to see from the Scriptures that when we come to Christ we have all these things. We have love (John 15:13), security (John 10:27-30), and acceptance (Ephesians 1:6). What many who are caught up in following false Christs are searching for, is what only One can give, and that One is the true and only Christ.
